Deep section rims are built from carbon fiber because aluminum rims of equivalent height would be very heavy and could not be rolled into a circle without wrinkling. The deep section rims are based around the d2 rim shape which the brand says offers the best aero performance in both head and crosswinds. If you want the rim deep for aero you don t need to go that deep. Generally deep section wheels offer significant aero drag benefits over traditional shallow rims so that a rider can go faster for the same effort or the same speed for less effort says. If you want to go deeper you are better off with the latest generation carbon.

Both wheels come in at a weight of a little less than 1800 g. The pacenti sl23 and kinlin xc279 are in the sweet spot for aluminum rims. Deep section rims range from around 30 mm. Carbon rims can be built much deeper than aluminum rims but with much less weight than a similar profle aluminum rim.

Wide and rounded is best. You are getting some seriously good wheels for your money here. They re well made and come with excellent internals plus you can run them tubeless. The rim is made from durable alloy and measures 23 mm wide and 37 mm deep.

Deep section aero wheels offer some of the biggest speed gains you can find along with your helmet and clothing. These are heavier but are cheaper than a complete carbon rim owing to lower manufacturing and development costs.
